WHAT I SAW: solo exhibit at Barbara Davis Gallery

Happy holidays! The time has finally arrived for Daniel's first Houston solo show. It will be on display December 9 through January 6 at Barbara Davis Gallery. The opening is Friday, December 9 from 6:30-8:30pm.

"McFarlane's exhibition of new paintings continues the dialog of abstraction through a tenuous balance of improvisation and control. The briliantly toned paintings describe moments of encounter between amorphous forms and rigid structures. The forms, which seemingly drip and ooze of their own accord, are actually carefully cultivated and painstakingly transplanted while the dimensional structures with which they interact are created in a trompe l'oeil fashion. McFarlane's exploration of color, shape, texture, and superimposition yield paintings of highly charged, dynamic tension."

Daniel McFarlane will exhibit a collection of abstract paintings completed during residency at Lawndale. His paint forms create dynamic tension and balance, as he develops a physical 3D plane of illusion within the 2D picture field.
